🥃 Opening Dram
There is something quietly civilizing about a well-chosen dram. It asks us to slow down, to pay attention, and to listen—first to the whisky, and then to one another.
As this Society takes its first proper steps, my hope is simple: that we build a place where curiosity is welcomed, opinions are shared generously, and no one is rushed to judgment—especially before the second sip.
This monthly briefing will be short by design. Think of it as a single page slipped across the table before the glasses are poured.
🏴 Featured Whisky
Whisky of the Month: Talisker 10 Year
Isle of Skye · Single Malt · 45.8% ABV
Talisker is often described as maritime, but that word doesn’t quite do it justice. This is a whisky that smells like weather—salt air, peat smoke, and something elemental.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Sea spray, campfire smoke, citrus peel
- Palate: Peppery heat, malt sweetness, brine
- Finish: Long, warming, gently smoky
Talisker sits beautifully at the crossroads of peat and balance. It reminds us that intensity, when disciplined, can still be elegant.
🌎 Beyond Scotland
Bourbon Sidebar: Elijah Craig Small Batch
For those evenings when peat feels a bit too stern, Elijah Craig offers a softer conversation—caramel, vanilla, and oak without shouting for attention. A fine reminder that bourbon rewards patience just as much as Scotch does.
(If you try it side-by-side with Talisker, notice how sweetness and smoke answer one another.)

✒ Closing Thought
A good whisky doesn’t demand understanding. It invites it.
