🥃 Opening Dram
October belongs to atmosphere.
The air sharpens. Leaves turn. Evenings arrive earlier. A dram that felt too weighty in July may now seem perfectly timed.
This is one of the quiet joys of whisky: it has seasons without being bound by them. Some bottles feel bright and summery. Others seem made for rain, wool, old wood, and a chair near the fire.
October invites us toward whiskies with more texture, more depth, and perhaps a little more mystery.
🏴 Featured Whisky
Whisky of the Month: Springbank 10 Year Old
Campbeltown · Single Malt · 46% ABV
Springbank 10 is one of the great reminders that tradition still matters. Produced in Campbeltown, a region with a long and complicated whisky history, it carries a character that is difficult to mistake: coastal, oily, gently smoky, and wonderfully individual.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Brine, orchard fruit, malt, soft smoke
- Palate: Citrus, cereal grain, coastal salt, gentle peat
- Finish: Medium-long, dry, lightly smoky, and mineral
Springbank 10 does not taste manufactured to please everyone. That is part of its charm. It is a whisky with edges, texture, and a sense of place. In an age of polish, it reminds us that character often matters more than perfection.
🌎 Beyond Scotland
Danish Whisky Sidebar
Danish whisky has become an interesting part of the growing European whisky conversation. Some producers work with local grain, smoke, unusual cask types, and northern maturation conditions, creating whiskies that feel both familiar and distinctly regional.
Like Campbeltown Scotch, Danish whisky can remind us that place matters. Whisky is not only a recipe. It is a landscape, a climate, a craft tradition, and a set of choices.
📝 Society Notes
- October is a fine month for comparing coastal whiskies. Try tasting Springbank beside Talisker, Oban, or Clynelish and notice how differently “coastal” can appear in the glass.
- Members are encouraged to bring questions, not just opinions, to our gatherings. Good whisky conversation begins with curiosity.

✒ Closing Thought
Some whiskies impress immediately.
Others stay with you because they refuse to be simple.
Until next month, Slàinte.
